The best classical music for relaxation is... Well, that may vary from person to person, since we all enjoy different types of music, and music you don't like probably won't be very relaxing for you.
Apart from these personal taste issues however, there are reasons why some classical pieces work better for relaxing you than others do. The effectiveness depends on the frequency of the beats and how those affect your brainwave frequencies. This discovery forty years ago - that some music really does slow your brainwaves - lead to the development of brainwave entrainment products. More on those in a moment though. For now, here is a list of some of best classical music for relaxation, based both on the science and on the experience of those who have tried different types of music.
J.S. Bach - Prelude from Cello Suite
J.S. Bach - Allemande (Cello Suite 3)
J.S. Bach - Be Thou Near Me
J.S. Bach - Concerto in G Minor for Flute and Strings
A. Vivaldi - The Four Seasons
G.F. Handel - Concerto number 1 in F
A. Corelli - Concerto No. 7 in D Minor
Telemann - Double Fantasia in G Major for Harpsichord
Often it's just a passage or movement that's most relaxing (probably due to the beat frequency). Those movements referred to as "largo" are generally most effective.
Other options? Classic Jazz, like that of Dave Koz and Luther Vandross is relaxing for many people. A CD of Gregorian chants is another relaxation tool used by some.
If you want the most effective
CDs, you might want to forget about using classical music for
relaxation and try the true brainwave entrainment technologies.
These CDs use typically music for the background anyhow, but
the addition of "binaural beats" cause your brainwaves
to slow down. They are very relaxing. In fact, if you listen
while laying down, most of these products will quickly put you
to sleep.
I've tried many of these CDs and MP3 downloads, and my current favorites are listed in the box below.
