Learn To Meditate Today
It isn't that difficult to
learn to meditate. The more difficult part is to practice regularly.
Two ways to meditate follow, and the second one can even make
your practice easy enough that motivation to practice comes naturally.
Learn To Meditate
- A Simple Exercise
The simplest form of meditation
is basic breath-watching. You can do this sitting, laying down,
or even standing up. Sitting with legs crossed is the most common
way perhaps, because laying down can cause some people to fall
asleep. I personally like to do this one standing up outside,
usually in front of a mountain, a lake or in some other beautiful
setting. In any case, this is a great way to clear your mind,
and become a bit more self-aware.
Once you choose a comfortable
position, close your eyes and let the tension run out of your
muscles as much as possible. This gets easier with practice,
and if there is a resistant area, you might find that tensing
it up and then releasing it helps you relax.
Begin to breath deeply and
slowly through your nose, while paying attention to the breath
coming and going. As your mind wanders (it will), just keep bring
your attention back to your breath. Continue in this way for
about ten to twenty minutes, although if it is difficult, you
can start with a five-minute session.
In addition to feeling relaxed
when finished, you may find that when you open your eyes you
have a new appreciation for the beauty around you. Things may
even look a little different. This latter effect may be due to
the clearing of your mind. We tend to see things through a mental
idea of what they should look like. In any case, it is a very
pleasant effect, and this is a very easy way to learn to meditate.

With Brainwave Entrainment
An even easier way to meditate
is to simply put a meditation CD that uses brainwave entrainment
technology into your player, put on the headphones and hit "play."
If you haven't tried these before, my recommendation for the
best ones are below. These products use embedded beats (sometimes
called "binaural beats") to alter your brainwaves,
and so bring them down to the alpha range (8 to 14 hertz, or
cycles per second) or the theta range (4 to 8 hertz).
The science is real, and having
tried six or more different meditation CDs, I can tell you that
these are powerful tools for meditation (I use them for power-naps
too). Sit and listen - it doesn't get any easier than that.
I would strongly recommend the following even if I
didn't get a commission:

The
Meditation Program
This is one of the most cutting-edge brainwave tools currently
available. The eight levels included take you from the beginner
level (mid-Alpha) right through to super-advanced (mid-Delta).
If you get the MP3 downloads (CDs are available too) you
might want to skip the "Registration Backup Service,"
which covers you if you lose the files, and just put an extra
copy somewhere in your computer. But either way, this is one
of the best products I have used. - Steve
